Description
Immerse yourself in the music experience with the MCD85 SACD/CD Player. Designed with an open chassis, the MCD85 is more than just high-performance audio equipment—it’s a statement piece that highlights your passion for music. Following the popular retro-inspired designs of the MC275 and MC1502 Vacuum Tube Amplifiers, MA252 and MA352 Integrated Amplifiers, and the acclaimed MC830 Solid State Amplifier and C8 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier, the MCD85 reflects the desire for home audio systems that stand out and command attention. It declares, “A True Music Enthusiast Lives Here.” The MCD85 achieves all that, and more.
The MCD85 supports playback of commercial SACDs and CDs, as well as custom CD and DVD data discs. It accommodates various file formats, including AAC, AIFF, ALAC, DSD (up to DSD128), FLAC, MP3, WAV, and WMA. The USB Audio input can handle up to DSD256 and DXD 384kHz, making it possible to stream digital music from computers or digital storage devices. Additionally, two coaxial and two optical digital inputs are available, supporting PCM signals up to 192kHz.
The player’s digital data conversion to analog signals is managed by a quad-balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit/192kHz Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). Four DAC channels are dedicated to each audio channel, ensuring top-notch stereo sound quality.
For connectivity, the MCD85 includes both balanced and unbalanced fixed analog stereo outputs, enabling seamless integration with preamplifiers, integrated amplifiers, or other home audio components. With its compact width and balanced outputs, the MCD85 can be placed conveniently near your listening area, allowing easy disc loading while maintaining long cable runs without compromising signal quality.
The MCD85 employs 2x read speed, allowing faster disc reading and data storage in a buffer for superior error correction and tracking. Its die-cast tray, custom beveled to match the chassis angle, ensures smooth, quiet disc handling. The twin-laser optical pickup, with a single objective lens and dual laser units, optimizes playback for both SACDs and CDs. Integrated Power Control and data ports simplify connection with other McIntosh components.
Each side of the chassis boasts a die-cast aluminum nameplate, and the polished front, top, and rear surfaces mirror the finish seen in iconic models like the MC275, MC1502, and others, making it a fitting addition to any McIntosh setup. The MCD85’s timeless design features a black glass front panel, direct LED backlighting, silver accents, an illuminated logo, and rotary control knobs, ensuring it blends seamlessly into any high-end audio system.
