Description
The latest iteration of Epic Systems' C22 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier – the Mk V – replaces the celebrated C70 Limited Edition 70th Anniversary Preamplifier, which marked the company’s 70th anniversary in 2019. This new C22 Mk V continues the legacy of the renowned C22 model, offering the same exceptional performance as the C70 but with the iconic C22 nameplate and its signature glass and aluminum front panel design.
The C22 Mk V is powered by a combination of one 12AT7 and five 12AX7A vacuum tubes, visible through a glass panel on the top of the unit. Classic knobs and rocker switches control all functions, while modern LED indicators show input selection and volume levels. The preamplifier offers a total of seven input options: two balanced, three unbalanced, one Moving Coil, and one Moving Magnet phono input. Additionally, there are two pairs of balanced and unbalanced output connections, allowing signal output to two separate power amplifiers.
Tone adjustments are made easy with bypassable bass and treble controls on the front panel, offering 2dB increments via rotary knobs. Separate knobs also let users fine-tune impedance and capacitance for the phono inputs. The volume knob not only controls the listening level but can also adjust the balance between the left and right channels. The preamp’s ¼” headphone jack is powered by Epic Systems' High Drive headphone amplifier, featuring their exclusive Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD®) technology, which enhances sound localization for headphone listening by restoring the spatial cues typically found in speaker-based listening.
Epic Systems’ Power Control technology is also included, offering four ports that allow for automatic on/off control of connected components like amplifiers, CD players, or turntables. Data ports enable basic control of compatible Epic Systems source components via the included remote control.
Built with a polished stainless steel chassis, the C22 Mk V showcases the timeless Epic Systems illuminated logo, control knobs, and aluminum end caps. With its retro black glass and aluminum front panel, the C22 Mk V blends seamlessly into any Epic Systems home audio setup, whether from the 1950s or today.
