Description

The MC1502 Vacuum Tube Amplifier is a high-performance stereo amplifier designed for audiophiles and home audio enthusiasts. Delivering 150 Watts per channel, it serves as the successor to McIntosh's celebrated MC2152 Limited Edition 70th Anniversary Vacuum Tube Amplifier, which was released in 2019. While retaining the same audio specifications and exceptional sound quality as the MC2152, the MC1502 incorporates a more traditional McIntosh design.

Inspired by McIntosh’s iconic MC275, the MC1502 boasts the same timeless styling while offering twice the power output of the MC275 (150 Watts vs. 75 Watts). It is a larger, more powerful version, and while two MC275s can be used in mono mode to achieve 150 Watts per channel, the MC1502 surpasses the MC275’s signal-to-noise ratio with an impressive 112dB, providing an even quieter listening experience.

The MC1502 is powered by eight KT88 output vacuum tubes—four dedicated to each stereo channel—and features eight small-signal tubes (four 12AX7A and four 12AT7 vacuum tubes). These tubes work together to optimize audio performance, with the 12AX7A tubes handling the balanced and input amplifiers, and the 12AT7 tubes supporting the voltage and driver stages. All the tubes are protected by a durable 12-gauge stainless steel wire cage with a sleek black powder-coated finish.

To enhance the longevity of the KT88 vacuum tubes, the sockets are equipped with Air-Pipe cooling at their bases. The signal tube sockets are constructed with ceramic bases and gold-plated contacts to prevent atmospheric contamination, ensuring superior performance and reliability. The vacuum tubes rest atop a polished stainless steel chassis, which is precision-formed to a mirror-like finish.

Safety is a key priority with the MC1502, thanks to McIntosh’s Sentry Monitor™ technology, which continuously monitors output current and powers off the amplifier if the current exceeds safe limits. If this occurs, the signal tubes will flash red as a warning.

Thanks to McIntosh’s patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer technology, the MC1502 can deliver its full 150 Watts of power to any speaker, regardless of impedance (2, 4, or 8 Ohms). This technology, integral to McIntosh’s legacy since 1949, ensures superior sound quality and consistent performance. The two Unity Coupled Circuit output transformers are housed in glass-topped enclosures that display their detailed wiring diagrams. Vintage-style die-cast aluminum name badges adorn the amplifier, while a third, abbreviated badge is placed between the Tube Lights and Power knobs for a unique aesthetic.

The MC1502 is equipped with both balanced and unbalanced inputs, allowing easy connection to preamplifiers and other components in your home audio system. It also features McIntosh's patented Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts for secure speaker connections. Additionally, the amplifier includes Power Control inputs and outputs, allowing for seamless integration with other McIntosh components like preamps, CD players, and media streamers, enabling them to turn on and off automatically in sync with the MC1502.
