Description
The MC830 is a 1-channel solid-state amplifier that showcases an open chassis design, reminiscent of McIntosh’s well-known MC275 vacuum tube amplifier as well as the MA252 and MA352 integrated amplifiers. When paired with a preamplifier such as the complementary C8 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier, along with source components like a turntable, CD player, or streaming music device, and a set of speakers, a pair of MC830 units can create an immersive home audio experience.
With a footprint similar to the MA252 Integrated Amplifier, the MC830 features a direct-coupled output design and is rated to deliver 300 Watts at 8 Ohms or 480 Watts at 4 Ohms. Its fast-acting dual-scale watt meter provides precise power output readings for both speaker impedances. The visually appealing Monogrammed Heatsinks™ ensure the MC830 remains cool, supporting optimal performance. The unit is equipped with both balanced and unbalanced inputs for flexible integration into a home audio setup.
To safeguard speakers and the audio system, the MC830 incorporates two of McIntosh’s signature audio protection technologies. The patented Power Guard® technology monitors the output signal to shield speakers from overdriving, making real-time micro-adjustments to the input signal to prevent clipping that could damage speakers. Additionally, Sentry Monitor™, a fuse-less short-circuit protection circuit, disengages the amplifier’s output stage if current exceeds safe levels, automatically resetting once conditions normalize.
The amplifier features Solid Cinch™ speaker binding posts that securely hold speaker cables in place to prevent loosening and potential short circuits. These gold-plated binding posts resist corrosion and ensure high-quality signal transfer to the speakers. The MC830 also includes Power Control ports for seamless system power synchronization, sending on/off commands to other connected McIntosh components. An Auto Off function can be set to switch the amplifier off after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Each side of the MC830’s chassis is adorned with a die-cast aluminum name badge, while the front, top, and rear surfaces boast a polished, mirror-like finish. The black glass front panel is accented with silver trim, a signature blue watt meter, an illuminated logo, and control knobs, embodying the timeless McIntosh aesthetic.
